Open Vista Retail Services was founded in 2006 by Wilson Industries of Wilmington, North Carolina who also own and operate an independant ACE Hardware store, Harold's Home & Hardware. A customer of Activant for a few years, they operate the Activant Eagle for Windows system, and in 2005, purchased their I-Net e-store product.

In order to enhance the e-store software, they bought in an independant developer to design and build a website for them to produce a fully customized e-commerce website. HaroldsHardware.com was born.

Over the course of the next few months, other ACE Hardware store owners took notice of Harold's Home & Hardware's website, contacted them, and asked where they got their website from. Seeing a demand, and an opportunity to develop a business, Wilson Industries created Open Vista Retail Services.
